Shane's Inspiration was founded in April 1998 by Catherine Curry-Williams and Scott Williams in memory of their son Shane, who passed away two weeks after birth. Had Shane lived he would have spent his life in a wheelchair. When the Williams' discovered that he would have no public park in which to play, they made it their mission to build this very special playground, where children with disabilities can play side-by-side with their able-bodied peers at the highest level of their ability. The goal is to enhance the emotional, physical and social development of all children, while providing an environment where compassion and acceptance can flourish. With the belief that playing in a playground is the birthright of every child, the Williams' and co-founder Tiffany Harris rallied friends, family and community to help raise money to build this extraordinary play environment for the children of Los Angeles. "Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead.

My kids had a great time. The playground is big. My children age from 11 months, 6, 11, and 12 years enjoyed spending time here. We hiked, explored the old zoo, we had a picnic and enjoyed a Shakespeare play.

Fun ADA accessible playground with lots of super fun rides. My kids call the very unique merry-go-round in the center “the subway” and if u see it for yourself you’ll understand why. Fairly large green area with a moderate slope running North to South. Parking to the East and West of the park A limited number of picnic tables and the popularity of this place for parties and events means if you want to host something you’ll have to show up early and compete for a spot. This place gets very busy on weekends so finding a parking spot can price challenging.
